Which field monitor for video?

Have just started out creating films on my Sony a9, and wondered, for those of you that shoot video do you use an external field monitor either on the hotshoe or clamped to the tripod etc?

If so are there any you can recommend? Had a budget of £300 or under really, but see there are quite a few with 4k and touchscreen in this price range that are rated, and also run off Sony batteries which is handy for me.

Thanks!

With that sort of budget you might want to look at the Atomos Shinobi. Wex have them for £289. This is a decent package which offers all the usual features and has a good, bright touchscreen. It also offers waveforms and vector scopes both really useful exposure tools not offered by many other monitors.

If you do get an external monitor consider a camera cage. The A9 has a small HDMI port which won't tolerate a lot of abuse from the monitor cable. A cage will allow you to use an HDMI support clamp to protect the port and give you somewhere to monitor, external mic etc.
