Yes
hi was looking @ Ziggys canon speed-lite 270EX, very light weight just what i need, but it strobes to lock onto AF no AF assist how if any way would i get round this with the 5D.

the 430EX is just too heavy with the 5D.

could anyone recommend a light weight flash for me (a light weight)

Merc

I know the feeling with the weight issue but whichever way you cut it you will still have the weight of 4 batteries + the flash.

I use a 430EX on my 500D and don't find it to problematic weight wise though I know I would have problems with the 5D's weight with a decent lens let alone adding flash.
If your shooting static then you could always try shooting with the flash off camera on an Ettl cord or perhaps spreading the load by using a flash bracket would help?

Hi Ian thanks for that, way back when i had the 400D i had a 430ex with 24 105 but was that heavy for me then, i have a neck holder which is a small tripod column with a head on one end quick release, this slings round your neck and rests on your chest, it may be time to dig it out again.

Weight? 5D is no light weight and with your 70-200 2.8 it weighs about five times more than a 430EX flash!

270 is a neat and pocketable little gun but is low on power for bouncing, head doesn't rotate, cannot do high speed sync, limited controls, no AF assist light, slow recycling...

Hi thanks, i was thinking of using it with the 17 40 and 50mm i have as there great on low light, but know take pictures at our school ( i am a governor there and will be non fee based , well just the odd cup of coffea) panto's shows, and out and about, and at church which is a bit dark as well, and i was hoping i could capture some of the action, rather than just still shots, the flash will help in a fast shutter.

Regards Merc

cannot do high speed sync:thinking:

In the interests of being a total pedant, I think it CAN do HSS, but only if you have a body that supports camera control of the flash (eg 50D, 1D3 etc), so in the OP's case it may as well not do HSS!

Pedantry is fine Phil ;) Especially when you're right! I stand corrected - it does indeed do HSS which I have to say elevates its usefulness greatly IMHO

It will surely get cained to death in that power-hungry mode, and not recycle too quickly on just two AA batteries, but at least it will have go :)

And compared to its bigger brothers, it is indeed a very neat little gun
