Which flash?

I'm talking myself into needing a flash for my 600D...

So, which one?

It will be used for indoor shots (gasp!) of family type events and outdoors for portrait type shots on our travels. The built-in flash works well enough, but remembering to remove the lens hood is a pain and the lenses I'm using are a Sigma 18-250 and a Sigma 150-500 so, physically, a little longer than 'standard'.
 
If you think the built in one is ok you may be ok with the 270EX II. Low powered but quite small and light.

A better flash with a little more oomph would be the 430EXII and that would be the recommendation.

You could go for a used 580EX too.... More power but you lose the ability to control from the camera.
 
I'd opt for a 430 range and your 600D has built in wireless flash control as well, so the 430 would work nicely with it
 
+1 for the Nissin Di866. I have one for my 7D and it's an excellent performer. Comparable to the Canon 580EX II in performance and very good build quality. They're available for around £180-200 compared to the Canon at around £300. I have got a 580EX II as well as the Nissin Di866 and there really isn't a lot of difference between them apart from the price.
 
Can you control the Nissin from the back of the camera?
 
Thanks for the advice. I researched on the suggestions and I've got a 430EX II on the way.
