Try a Nissin Di622. 7Dayshop have them for £99.95 inc delivery. I have a bag full of them and they are reliable, consistent and tough enough so that I haven't broken any yet.

Just make sure its not been abused. We run a lot of 550s at work and aside from the cover coming off the AF illumination light, the tilt/swivel mechanism wears badly, meaning it becomes loose and rattley. To be fair, many of ours are over seven years old and have seen serious abuse, but its worth noting.....

Plus, compared to the 580 its not as nicely put together

The Metz £99 I have is Nikon fit for my sons D3100, when he doesn't use it I have it on a wireless attachment with my Metz 45 on my Canon 60D.

Dont know what you mean by control, it has various power settings etc, auto/manual zoom, auto manual settings, and so on.



I tried the old light triggers but they are no good, don't bother with TTL, personally whatever setup I have is manual, then again I have been doing that for 30+ years.

BOTH the metz hotshoe guns are SUPERB, they are also very fast 3sec recycle, or in thsi shot as fill in .5 sec. The Metz was off to the left unfortunately just out of shot.

Also wireless trigger. I was sitting with a coffee 50' away.
