Which is the better Lens

In your opinion which is the better budget lens the Canon Zoom Lens EF 75-300mm MKIII F/4-5.6 or the SIGMA 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG AF MACRO LENS. I have the sigma and am wondering if the canon would be the better option?
 
Have you considered the canon EF-s 55-250mm IS?
 
I had the 75-300 canon and upgraded to the 100-400, but that was me, i found it very soft and not doing what I wanted.

Another +1 for the 55-250, a very good lens for the money, lots of people on here got one or had one

Have had and used the 55-250, canon 70-300 and now the 100-400, the 100-400 isby far my favourite of the bunch but then you would expect it to be being an L lens in a different price bracket.

Between the two others I would put the 70-300 ever so slightly better than it's smaller brother but both fantastic for the money.
 
i have the SIGMA 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG AF MACRO LENS and it broke ... think i'll buy canon next time
 
If you are considering those lenses I would really be thinking about spending that little bit more for the 70-200 F4L - I considered the 70-300 IS but the performance decline after 200mm made me think that I would rather have a great quality 70-200 than a ok 70-300. However I'm sure the IS is great to have on the 70-300.

The 55-250 IS is a great lens though, I had it for a while and it was really good for the price.
 
I had the Canon 70-300 and still regret moving it on (to fund a 70-200 f2.8). It's light, sharp and focus speed is not to bad either. I did find that F5.6 could be a pain at the long end, but have some great shots, even when winding the ISO up to 1600.
