Which lens for D610

I really need some help as to which lens to buy as a walkabout lens. This is my first FX, previous cameras D80, D200, D7000. I have some lenses which I can use, Nikon 70-300vr, 105mm micro, 50mm 1.8 and Sigma 150-500. I've read about the Tamron 28-75 2.8 being an exceptionally good lens but note it says the one without the built in motor is the best. Is this an old lens? Can it stil be bought new? Will the one with the built in motor be nearly as good?

I've been going round in circles looking at these lenses, I can't stretch at the moment to the more expensive Nikkor 24-70 2.8. Can anyone offer advice please or any other suggestions?

The one with the built in motor is ok, just doesn't seem to focus as quickly - I had both!

The non BIM 28-75 is my workhorse. Great value. Just make sure it's a good copy!

The one without BIM, can it only be bought second hand now? I seem to have trouble locating one now.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about getting a Tamron without a BIM, the new one is perfectly fine.

I have the Tamron but since getting the Nikon 28-300 it hasn't been on the camera as I find the increased range and VR more useful than f/2.8. There will be times I use the Tamron (weddings) but as a general walkabout the Nikon is great, it's even replaced my 70-300VR.
 
Worth reading up on the Nikon 35-70 2.8 as well. Shouldn't cost much these days and produces very nice results. A little slower and noisier to focus than some of the bang up to date stuff but I suspect on a par with the Tamron being considered. Of course not quite the same focal length range though.

If the budget is there to consider the 24-120 f/4, then also take a look at the Nikon 28-70 2.8. It's the predecessor to the 24-70 and offers near identical performance.

There is also the latest 24-85 vr to consider. It's the kit lens for the D610 but I've heard very good things about it though never had the pleasure.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the lenses listed all DX for crop sensors meaning you will get either vignetting or the camera will
auto revert to a crop size ?
 
No, they're all Fx compatible.
 
:ty:Thank you all for your good advice. After much deliberation I decided to go for the Tamron, buying it from Panamoz. This with a uv filter cost me £270. This should see me through until funds allow for a better all round lens. Santa's coming soon :woot:and I'm going to write to the Nikon Elf
