Which one would be the best I have try`d both lens a friend has them both
I liked them both but it`s the money thing do I go for the 28-135 or the 24-105 as if I upgrade my camera in the long run is it better to go for the 24-105 which would be a keeper .
What difference`s would I see in the two lens from each other
Also what sort of money should either of these lens be fetching second hand

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens
 
By the way camera is CANON 550D the lans would be used on

Of those two then the 24-105 BUT a lot of people will say on a 1.6 crop camera neither of them.At the short end they are not all that wide and you may find yourself wishing for something wider.Teamed with a 10-20/22 mm then you would be fine.
The 24/105 will cost around £600 ,no idea about the other.
You might be better looking at something around the 15/17-50/85 area depending on budget.Personally I would go for the Canon 15-85 but others will chip in with other options.

I have the 24-105, very pleased with it. Works great for me as a walkaround lens. Fixed aperture helps when shooting manual and needing to zoom in etc. If you find it a bit short then maybe you should also get a 70-200 :lol:
 
Thanks for that I`am drawn to the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens but as I said it`s the money thing but I want to get it right as if I do upgrade at a later date I`d want to keep the lens I have just change the body .
 
I would be inclined to advise the 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM instead of the 24-105 on a crop body.

Better low light focusing abilities (f/2.8 vs f/4), wider (27mm vs 28mm equivalent focal lengths). Shorter at the long yes, and granted this may be more of a issue to you than the wide end.

I wouldn't worry about moving to Full Frame in the future either. Shop for what's best for you now. You'd have no problem selling the 17-55 for very little loss.

For info, I owned the 17-55 when I had a 40D and now have a 24-105 (on a 5D2). The 17-55 is a great lens.
 
Again thanks for the info as I said I want to get the lens if and when I was to upgrade I can keep my lens to use on the better camera

TBH, you're probably better getting a 17-55 2.8 now and swapping it (it should be near enough a swap if you buy second hand) for a 24-105 if you ever move to full frame....

I know I'd miss the 17-24 range if I only had the 24-105....
 
Neither.

Ideally you should be looking at an EF-s 17-55 or 15-85 to get the best from your setup.

If you do decide to get a 24mm plus lens, as others have suggested, pair it with a superwide, preferably the canon EF-s 10-22.
 
I've had both the 24-105 and the 28-135. Both are good lenses, the 24-105 has richer colours and better IS, and is of course 4mm wider. As you'd expect, build quality on the 28-135 is inferior but still not bad.

As others have said, you might be better with a lens designed for crop sensors, such as the 17-55mm 2.8 IS or the 15-85mm IS. Both excellent lenses, I have used the 17-55 and you can't go wrong, even if it is a little short on reach. Depends what you want it for I guess.
