which lens - home studio?

i currently have a nikon d100
thinking about turning my garage into a home studio
to some portrait work

which lens would be best to use

nikon 85mm 1.8

all depends on the size of the studio

If you plan on doing white BG, I would suggest a Nikon 70 to 300 VR (70 to 200 is way over budget). Whatever you get, you want a nice big hood - the 50 and 85 I have found absolutely hopeless with BG lights on.

I reckon so, good focal length, I use a 70 to 200 on full frame, sit with it around F13...

I would shoot at 250th of a second, so would not really need VR. I don't think it will do any harm. What size is the hood?

I use my default lens hood on the 70 to 200. The bigger and more sheilding the hood, the more contrast / less flare.
