I currently only have one lens in my kit bag .... the Nikkor 18-200mm 3.5/5.6 which I thought would be a great walkabout lens.

I'm now looking to my next purchase and wondered what you guys thought.

One thing I did find when I was out for the first time was that I felt limited by it's reach.

My areas of interest, street, fine art, architectural, and some family portraits. I also have a keen interest in landscape but haven't yet had the chance to do any of my own.

You don't state your budget, but I'd be considering either a 50mm prime or the 24-70/2.8. The latter may not be wide enough on your body though, but with the crop would still make a great general and portrait lens.

Or get an old 35-70 for a fraction of the price...........:)

A 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 would really open up your creativity and would be great for still life/portrait/street etc
You say you feel limited in length at 200mm. For £400 your option really is the 70-300 VR but i really don't think the extra 100mm will be that noticable.

How about:
architectural
- 10-20 sigma f3.5
- 11-16 tokina f2.8
portrait
- 30 f1.4 sigma
- 50f1.4 afs g
- 50f1.4d
- 50f1.8
table top
- 105 d macro f2.8
- the same but vr
- 135mm f2.8 (ish)

i have some of those lenses, link to flickr in my sig.

Most are between 200 and 400 ish ukp.
