evening all,

i have been invited to a friends daughters christening and have been asked if i would take some snaps.

they are good friends so i want to put together a cd of the day (a bit more than they expect).

i have a 70-200 F4 for outdoor stuff but the service is in a cathedral (obviously very low light)

I have a 100mm 2.8 but im thinking this might not be fast enough. i also want to stay well out of the way (im not there as an official tog so want to stay in the background)

im very much into candid stuff and would like the greater part of the shots to be as such (obviously with the customary group/staged ones)

im not there as a tog.....honest:thinking::D

with this is mind im thinking of renting the 135mm F2.........this would allow me a fast lens with the benefit of keeping "out of the way".

am i on the right lines or can someone think of anything better?

First of all can you take pictures in the sevice, I went to a christening last week and no photos was the order of the day. Although after they did allow staged pictures after the service which at least meant you could use a flash.

jacob, i have thought about this lens, i have the nifty but i dont like the length. i feel too "close" to people and like to give them some room so this may replace it. however for the service i thought a 135 would allow me even more distance but you have a point.

andy, this is another good point. the last christening i was at photos were allowed throughout. i do have a speedlight so this could be a valid option for group shots.
 
renting a 70-200 2.8 i take it you mean. is this from experience in shooting in cathedrals and churches?

not being funny but if you have then please elaborate futher. some advice from pros would be ideal.
