Which lens to upgrade?

Hi all

I currently have a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and a Canon 70-200 f/4

I'm very much considering upgrading 1 of the 2, and debating which is the more sensible choice!

For an similar price (including the sale of the current lens) I could pgrade my Tamron to the Canon 17-55 IS (roughly £400 cost) or my 70-200 f/4 to the f/2.8 (roughly £500)

I use both lenses an equal amount, but I feel that, as I have a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for low light, the 70-200 may be a more intelligent upgrade?

Opinions are much appreciated!
 
Whats your shooting preference as this will ultimately influence your end choice.
 
You do not say what you shoot most ?,the tamron is supposed to be good ,but not owning one I cannot say,but if you are set on upgrading ,the extra light the 2.8 will give you on the 70-200 is always a welcome bonus.
Plus with a 1.7 adaptor fitted will give you a some extra usable reach.:thumbs:
 
I'm not intent on upgrading....I'm more curious if either is worth the upgrade! Obviously, while the Tamrom 17-50 is good, I expect the Canon to beat it throughout the focal length, if only by a small margin. Obviously, the Canon also has 5mm more reach and IS

Regards the 70-200, how does the 2.8 non-IS compare to the 4 non-IS in temrs of Iq, sharpness etc
 
On your 7D i expect the Canon 17-55mm will produce a crisper image compared to the Tamron 17-50mm.
It will also be slightly faster focusing and quieter too. Everything else will be marginal.

As for the 70-200, I cannot provide assistance on your comparison.
However if you go down the 70-200 f2.8 then that gives you breathing space for a 2x converter to make a 140-400mm f5.6 lens which will without doubt increase your flexibility.

Again though my thoughts would be based on what you shoot whether you decide to upgrade or not.
