Which lens would you choose and why

Canon 17-85mm IS

Tamron 17-50 2.8 non VC

Been looking at these 2 lenses and not sure which would have the best IQ etc etc. Would the extra reach be worth it? I would be using it for portraits and other family stuff etc etc. Cheers
 
You can get those Canon 17-85 lens's pretty cheep these days! Its a Canon lens after all.... I try to stick with Canon Len's for my Canon camera, if i shot Nikon i would stick with Nikon.

Problem is, that Canon is nowhere near as good as the Tamron. Not by a long shot.

OP you know what I'm going to say now don't you?!

Tamron 17-50 non VC £266 brand new from Amazon. An absolute no brainer.

Not looking for new. 2nd hand it would have to be.
 
A lot of the 2nd hand prices are more than a brand new one from amazon!
 
I have to agree with the above... Tamron 17-50 Awesom sharp lens.
