Yes
being a keen angler specialising in large carp/barbel and pike i would like to know which would be the best lens to put on my nikon d300.
at present i am using the 18-200mm lens i bought with the camera.
the trophy/portrait shots i do are all close up ie 4-5 feet away and just wondered if say a 50mm lens would be better.

Try setting your 18-200 at 50mm and then dont move it.......

This is what you will get but with better IQ and vastly faster!

The 50mm f1.8 Af will be ideal, right sort of focal length and the large aperture will enable you to blur distracting backgrounds

50mm might be a bit too much, something like a 35mm might be a better option. You could also consider a decent wide angle zoom, such as a 17-55 2.8, or if you're on a budget a Tamron 17-50 2.8.
