Ok, so I've got a 70-200 F4 L IS and a 70-300 F5.6 L IS, but one has to go to free up some cash as I've just had a bit of a mammoth spend, but which one do I keep?

I have a 1DX body now, so I'm thinking keep the 70-300 for the reach, as the better ISO on the 1DX will compensate for aperture on the lens, but what's the opinion out there, is there a reason I should keep the 70-200 instead?
 
Nobody can answer this for you without more information. But if you provide that information, you'll have answered the question yourself. So let's do it that way.

* Which do you use most?
* What percentage of your shots taken using the 70-300 are actually at focal lengths longer than 200mm?
* What percentage of your shots taken using the 70-200 are at apertures that the 70-300 can't achieve, and how important is that?
* How do you feel about the weight of the two lenses?
 
Like Stewart says only you know what you use.
Re T/C's Kenko will fit the 70-300. If you use a 1.4 on the 200 it will be F5.6 across the range and still not be as long as the 70-300. It would also negate the weight saving of the 70-200, but I guess you know this. The 70-300 is only F5.6 at 300. It's iirc F4 @ 70-100, F4.5 @ 135, F5@200 F5.6@300.
 
Thanks all, after having a little look there is no favouritism towards a particular focal length or aperture, but I was out with a mate last night and he has asked me do I fancy shooting some of their rugby games, just amateur stuff, so the longer length would be better here and the aperture issue shouldn't really hinder me too much, so the decision is probably made... I think? Haha
 
The 70/200 is a peach but the 70/300 isnt rubbish either and tbh I doubt you'll notice the difference other than when pixel peeping. I bought a 100/400 recently and much as I love my 70/200 I cant see a good reason to keep both as in your situation. If you find you're using 300 a lot then the 70/200 is surplus. You could add a 2x to the 70/200 or a 1.4 to the 70/300 and they would still both work (centre AF) so that's no restrictor and my feelings are the 1.4 would work better. Is the 70/300 weatherproof i.e. does it have a rear seal? Depending on where you take your camera that might make a difference.

Yeah it's the L lens so it's weather sealed, so all good to use outdoors for the rugby

Not all L lenses are weatherproof and some that are need a filer to complete the area e.g. 70/200 nonIS aren't sealed at all.
 
I thought all of the IS zoom lenses were weatherproof as standard? But then again thought all L lenses were weatherproof regardless...so Ive learned something new there then.

The ones I have now are definitely weatherproof though :)
