Which lenses on a budget.....

Hi everyone
This sort of question has no doubt been asked a million times and will i imagine will be asked till the end of time lol............
Basically i have recently purchased a Nikon D90 and would like to buy some lenses over next 12 months or so.
I already have the kit 18-105mm zoom and a Nikkor 1.8 50mm prime.
I will have a £1000 to buy 3 lenses of the following catagoies:

1.Macro 1.1

2.Wide angle from around 10mm+

3.Zoom 200/300mm

2nd hand is fine.

This is so that i have a basic set up and not for any particular subject/use
I have looked at various lenses and the prices range from affordable to sell your car lol, there are so many to choose from that its mind boggling.I know the fast zooms are expensive and the old saying "you get what u pay for" applies but are the cheaper zooms for example worth buying i.e 70-200mm £160???
Any lenses from your experience i should avoid/deff buy.
Also im not sure about all the letters used to describe a lens VR AF and F are about all i know, is there a glossary anywhere on site to describe them.

There is some useful info on this thread HERE from the other day, with some links worth bookmarking.

Nikkor 70-300 VR is a fine lens around £400 new (£350 used) make sure it is the VR version.

Nikkor 12 - 24 f4, I have one and I am always pleased with the results around £500 - £600 used, although I have seen them cheaper, the Tokina version is close optically, and would cost a lot less, or there is the newer Tokina 11 - 16 f2.8 which is supposed to be really good COMPARISON

Macro Tamron 90mm around £330 new, however most macro lenses will give excellent results, what you need to consider is working distance to your subject. Flowers and static subjects 60 - 100mm range is fine, for insects / live subjects 100 - 200mm range is better, the longer the focal length the further away you can be from the subject, and with an insect the less chance of spooking it.
