Which Manual lens?

Looking at those on e-bay, I think I'd go with the Yashica. I couldn't honestly say how it compares quality-wise with the others, but Yashica lenses (manual ones) have a good reputation. We used to sell many of their lenses second-hand when I worked in a camera shop in the 1980's.

The zukio 50mm/1.8 is cheap as chips and very good

What about helios or jupiter? As I undersatnd it they are based on the carl Zeis lens? Available in m39 leica or m42 fit (also kiev bayonet).

plenty of 135/2.5 stuff about in price.

I like the tamron ad2 lenses that I have.

Also have you checked prices at ffordes or similar? sometimes ebay isnt cheap...

edit: If you get the m39 russian lenses and a m39->m42 ring you'll have some glass ready and waiting for when you buy the leica....

minolta rokkor 50/1.7 has a very good name.

I have the minolta and the zukio and I'm pleased with them.
