Which mobile phone for Tethering

Hi and Happy New Year !

I am currently out of contract with my mobile phone supplier and looking to either upgrade the handset and/ or change supplier...

I want to tether the laptop to my next mobile phone to use the data instead of buying a dongle for that specific purpose.

I am open to all mobile phones and suppliers, so what is you advice and any recomendations?...

my mates got an iphone 4s on the 3 network he tethers it and its brilliant, very fast speeds for internet browsing etc

I've got a blackberry on 02 and for tethering its awful, I dont know whether its my phone or network or both

I'm looking at the Iphone or maybe the Samsung Nexus...I'm currently with Voda but the coverage in my town is abysmal...Even from the guys in the Voda shop, they say it isn't the best around..Prices for the handsets varies from £189 down to nothing upfront for the Pay Monthly option with all you can eat data.

Easy to tether on both iPhone and Android, however it's down to mobile network they can check what device is using the internet and if like O2 they charge extra for tethering then you'll prob find yourself with a big bill if they check :rules:.

Aren't 3 the only network now offering "all you can eat" data now that others have gone down the fair usage policy route?

Vodafone do allow iPhone tethering. It's a pay as you go sort of usage. Enable it and it runs for 1 month. £5.00 for 500Mb. Disable it at the end of the month an no additional charge. But as you say Vodafone is pretty poor in your area

You could look at a MiFi unit. Mobile broadband but it acts as a router as well so you can connect multiple devices to it, ie Laptop, iPad or Phone. About £70 plus data package

On an iphone tethering can be enabled or disabled via the network settings (set by the operator). If you have paid for say 1gb/500mb the I can't really see why they would care if it's "tethered data" or not as at the end of the day data is data.

I've decided to go with the Iphone on three...Going direct with Three there are two deals £35 with more upfront for the hanset and then £40 for same handset with £50 less upfront...Both on 24 month contract with All you can eat Data... and loads of minutes and Txts....I went with the £35/month with £50 extra upfront...

The £35 deal with third party suppliers(Ie not Three) is different...the minutes and txts are different... Well worth checking before buying..

Lets see how we get on with it...It arrives tomorrow
