Which Monitor 27 or 30

Hi to all,
I have just come into a windfall so I need a new monitor 27, or 30in, now the ones I have been looking at are, bare in mind I'm running a Windows 7 PC, I could buy a 27 iMac but I'm not sure if I could move over and use a 27" iMac like I use a PC..after all I am 57.:thinking:


1: NEC
2: DELL
3: Samsung
4: Or move to a Mac..

Size 27 or 30in, Led or Tft? I use CS5, Lightroom 3 and Phase one capture 6 pro (now and then) Nikon D3X Raw files..

Your thourghts please..:)
 
Dell IPS monitors are awesome I've got a 22" one.

How much do you wanna spend? At that size you could spend anything from £100 to £1000s pretty much

How about 2 24's?
Lightroom is soooo much easier with two monitors!
 
I'd go with an IPS type panel though. Much better colour and when you have two monitors viewing angle is quite important so again an IPS wins over a TN.

Seconded.

It's much more convenient to be able to compare things side by side, without having to flick back and forward between windows, drag them around and resize them all the time.

It really increases your productivity - once you get used to a multi-monitor setup you'll find it hard to live without.
 
Buy a 27" iMac and if you don't like it you can still use it as a monitor only ;) but anyway you can run Windows inside the iMac very easily...

You are indeed correct sir, forgot all about that. In that case these fellas review well (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172798) but there have been SOME reports of a green/pink tint issue which might be worth looking into before shelling out!
 
I changed to a mac with a 27" monitor and havent switched the pc on since lol

Was thinking around a £1000 it would be more, but I want some Nikon 2.8 lenses to go with the D3X...:)

I agree. Dell works well. NEC could better it slightly for a hefty premium.

I'd avoid anything glossy as a plague. It gives a terrible headache. If you are going the mac route, just pick up a smaller macbook pro or a desktop. Mac OS is much better than anything else on the market.

27 or 30 - thats relatively small difference in size. It is not like 6 or 3 inches :lol:.
 
30" will generally be 2560x1600 @ 101dpi (16:10)
27" will generally be 2560x1440 @ 109dpi (16:9)

This is the next step up from what most people use now which is:
24" 1920x1200 @ 94dpi (16:10)
21.5" 1920x1080 @ 102dpi (16:9)

I'd much rather have a single 2560 screen than 2 1920 screens as it gives better vertical resolution for large pics and there is no pesky break in your work area. I'd much rather be running a software based split screen like w7 uses than have a hard division.

Meh... I couldn't go for one high resolution monitor over two slightly lower resolution because most image editing supports two independent monitors very well. If I had the money (and desk space either) 2x U2711 or 2x U3011 Dell monitors. One monitor is very restrictive once you've had access to two decent monitors (and you don't have a break in your work area unless you've set it up like a *** ;))
 
Thank you all for your info, my wife has convinced me to go Apple so I'm going for the 27"iMac i7, with 8GB of Ram, should go nice with my new camera gear..:):):)

I am 60 now...bought my first iMac (27") late last May. I will admit that it took a bit of getting used to, but I wouldn't go back now. But...that said...if you're happy with the MSFT operating system there's no real need to move over.

Good luck whatever you choose.
