right ok,
i'm sure this has been brought up before, probably several times, but as i know there are a number of people on here that will be able to advise....
i would like to get the most suitable lens for what i want to do, which is motorcycle racing, mainly road with the odd bit of MX now and then.
now i thought a while ago i had it nailed and decided that a canon 100-400 was the lens i needed, but now i'm so confused, after reading so many different comments about who use's or who would use what.........
so could someone please try and nail it for me, and advise which lens you go for if you had one choice..
as i said, i'm aware there are people on here that that pursue this subject very successfully, so i'm hoping for some response from them...thanks

think the most popular lens for MX is deff the 70-200 f2.8:D
dont know if that would have enough reach for your road racing though?

If I had the money(which I don't), a 300 f/2.8 L.
Probably a 1.4tc to partner it.

Yep, that would be nice

An idea of budget might lead to some more usefull replies.
Also, is there a specific circuit that you're going to be shooting at as that can have an impact on the reange required.

You know you're going to need something fast to freeze the action in less than optimal lighting. So it's f2.8 minimum. You know it needs to sharp at big f stops too, or there's no point in having a fast lens. You should know what focal length you need from analysis of your previous shots. So, in short it is going to be expensive! I eventually got the 300mm f2.8 AFS ((Nikon) and 1.4 and 1.7 AFS teles.) after "wasting" a lot of money trying things that I thought might be good enough. If you want to do it properly you have to bite the bullet! If you do it first time it will actually save you money too. I have not regreted it either!
