Which Multi port usb hub

I am after a multi port USB hub for my iMac. I have tried a nasty cheapo one off amazon and it was useless, I want to connect an external HDD, iphone, card reader and memory sticks. The cheapo one didn't recognise the hdd or the iPhone.
Any recommendations as the interweb is full of cheap plasticky rubbish, I just want something that will plug in and work.

Sounds like you need a powered one the hard drive especially needs more power than the average computer port can supply, PCWorld do a 4 way "Logik" one with power supply for about £12
