Hi.
If you would have to choose a wide prime for your FF body which one would you choose ?
Not for landscapes, more for portraits ...
I was thinking about wide tele lens ,something like new 16-35 but with prime I could save few pennies :)

And no, I can not afford myself the new 24mm f1.4 ...

Any ideas ?
Lukas

I have a Sigma 20mm f1.8 which I feel is rather nice. I think they are about £500 now so not cheap but worth it. I have a Heliopan circular polariser for it which is really nice but again not cheap at just over £100.

Any NIKON lenses ?
Do not get me wrong, but was not lucky with Sigmas so am not too keen on getting another one ...
But will look in to this one anyhow :)

Every lens I have is a Nikon except THIS lens as I prefer to stick with Nikon but I could not find anything as good from Nikon for anything like this money......

Bastic, when did you change to Nikon?!! Thought you were very keen on your Canon 5D  And I still owe you a coffee for that unsuccessful meet last year!

Hmmm so I may give it a go then :)

Hehe I loved mine 5d2 ... but after trying to do some low light shots and having problems with AF I thought I will give Nikon a whirl :)

Of course I want it !!! But price really puts me off...

I know, but give it a couple of months and it'll come down a bit. I know what you mean about price, and I don't know about you, but I always get that niggly feeling I should have bought the best.

Assuming you want something faster than f/2.8 which most zooms do, the Nikkor 35/2 is a lovely lens. Not really that wide but for portraits do you really want a really wide lens?!

The MF Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AI-S is lovely, as is the 28mm f/2.8 AI-S. Nikon's f/2.8 AF primes are not all that and are bettered by the Nikkor 14-24 and the 17-35 by a margin.

Consider one of the fast f/1.8 Sigma offerings as well.

Really cool!! Well it's not wide but I have a Sigma 30 1.4 if ever you want to borrow it. Amazing lens, might change your mind about Sigma....

Do not have couple of months :)
Re the feeling for best things ...have the same hehe
how wide and how expensive? I have the nikkor 28mm f2.8, which is pennies compared to many more exotic primes, but is beautifully crisp and works well on both FF and DX....but perhaps not as wide or as quick as you want

Is it really so good ?
How wide ? Me don't know ....20 to 30mm or so...
How fast ? Was thinking maybe 2.0 or tad faster ... but maybe 2.8 would do as well as I would use it in studio most of the times :)

Not Nikon, but the Voigtlaner 20mm f/3.5 is a good alternative? It's pretty wide and ideal and gets outstanding reviews. Though, it's manual focus, which may be another issue

I've finally decided it's time to get something ultra-wide again; and have ordered one today; though not from RW! Should be here within a couple of weeks

35mm f2 which i think is around £200.

to be honest I was considering 35 f2.0 for a long time! maybe because i fell sentimental about Canon 35 f1.4 ;D

and when I started to look for a wide prime, that was my first choice.

Maybe I should stick to it (?)

If I would go this way, I could easilly afford my self 70-200 VR2 ;D or another prime like 85 1.4 and extra F'gun ;D

Thank you all :)
I think I made my mind ;D

BTW : anyone here used 105 DC or 135DC ? :)

Wail,

I thought you had already got the Voigtlander which was why you sold me the lovely Sigma :) Would like to see some shots from it when you do get it.

Good morning Darren,

I never actually ended up getting the Voigt :( due to a delay in it being released! The Voigt. 20 was about to be released; after selling the Sigma, Linky, I pre-ordered one but never collected it as RW weren't able to send one to me before I was due to leave UK. I've since held-off buying it always thinking that may be 20mm was a bit too wide on full-frame, for my type of photography.

I have the 17-35 AF-S, which I hardly ever use because it's so wide and heavy to carry for "just in case" situations.

But I've since started to enjoy more city-scape and architectural subjects. The options are, either carry the 17-35 (which I am not too keen on), go for the Voigt. 20mm, the Zeiss 18mm or the Zeiss 21mm!

I ruled out the Zeiss on price basis (am not that happy to spend that kind of money). The 17-35 I ruled out due to weight inconvenience (but that's really just my lame excuse for giving in to lens lust and wanting the Voigt. to play with :p ).

Glad you're enjoying the Sigma, it's amazingingly wide and f/1.8 can be pretty handy for lowlight street shots :) .... have you seen the new f/ 1.4 ;)
