Which of these is the better

Im still undecided about whether i get the 85 f1.8G Nikon or go for the 50mm range.

From the following which is deemed the better lens, wide open, handling flare, bokeh and corner sharpness.

The 2 lenses i would like to know about are the Nikon 50 f1.4 G and the Sigma 1.4 EX DG HSM

Mark, I have the 50G and it is superb, sharp wide open, and lovely colours, the Sigma also gets good reports, but comparing images from both on the web I preferred those from the Nikon, however there is not a lot to chose between them.

Personally I don't find the 50mm a good range, I have a 35mm and an 85mm (1.4) ... the 85mm 1.8 is a very good lens.

I have worries about Sigma so that's put me off even though it's meant to be good. Now my only choice is between the Nikon 50 f1.4 G and the NIkon 85f1.8G lenses.

I have never used the 50mm range a great deal but like the idea of shallow DOF and being able to shoot in really low light. The 85mm range I loved in the past and I'm told the "G" model is even better... Choices, choices.

if the 50 f/1.4G is anything like the 35 f/1.8G it will be a great lens.
