Which of these two Nikkors 20mm f2.8, or 24mm f2.8

I shall soon be the owner of a D700, whilst I have a fine collection of lenses, I am going to need a wide prime. Which of these two is the best option on a full frame sensor D700.

20mm f2.8, or 24mm f2.8.

Reports suggest that the 24mm f2.8 is sharp and punchy, and that the 20mm f2.8 is a bit disappointing, however images on pbase suggest otherwise.

Anyone used either on a D700 or D3, and what were your opinions.

Had a 24mm on a D700, lovely lens. Sharp at 2.8 although I rarely used it wide open, nice colours and contrast. Wide enough for me, I don't know if I'd want to go wider with a prime to be honest. Only sold it as I had a bit too much overlap at 24mm since getting the 24-120 f4.

Although I've not shot personally with a 20/2.8 on a D700/D3, a good friend of mine suggests the 20 is soft wide open where as the 24 is the better options on an FX camera.

Thanks for that, sort of confirms my findings from the web ... which is a bonus as the 24mm is the cheaper option.

I have 24 2.8,it's great, it does vinyette a little more than my 2470 but love the small and light form factor. It's sharp mine is very sharp
