Ok heres the deal... About 12 months ago I started photography and after some sound advice from the salesman at the camera shop, who could have sold me thousands of pounds worth of gear, I bought a fuji s100fs fixed lens camera as a starter. Its a fantastic bit of kit with loads of really good settings and toys, upto 400mm zoom etc etc etc. Its basically an SLR but you cant change the lens. However, its now time for me to upgrade. The fuji has, along with some good friends taught me a lot about photography but now its time I got my 1st SLR. At the end of this month I will be spending near £2500 on my kit. But the thing is I cant decide between the NIKON D300 or the CANON 50D. I had my heart set on the nikon until i got hold of the 50d with a 10-20mm lens today and wow!! what a camera. I intend to buy the camera and lenses seperately aswell as a good flash, bag, remote trigger, monopod etc. Help me out here guys......The canon has a higher pixel ration and is about 300 quid cheaper, but theres something about the NIKONS. Which way do I go?

This question is asked on every forum and Nikon guys will shout D300
Canon guys 50D

The only way is to handle em both and see what you like the best.

If the do it,hire one then the other on separate days to try them out,it's a lot of cash to splash , but picture wise you will get a damb good image out of them both.
The Canon system has most modern lens system, just, but the Nikon system
can fit lenses from way back .

Handle em to know........

yes what towershot said, also have you considered the sony, pentax, olympus range. if i had £2500 i would buy a low level body like the a700 and then buy some beautiful glass like the 100mm macro and the sweet 70-200mm zoom, along with a tamron 17-50mm or zeiss 24-70mmm plus a nifty fifty, and as everyone would say "the lenses in most circumstances last longer than the body", so dont look at a nice body, look at nice glass first. hoped this helped.
