Yes
Decided I need a sharp prime I think the 85mm may be a little too long but which is better the canon 50 or sigma's ? Or another option but not the nifty want 1.4

The nifty fifty (50mm 1.8 II) is a strong lens for not much cash and a good range on a crop.

Now I've not tried them but I understand the Sigma 50mm 1.4 is better than the Canon 1.4 offering but those come at a much higher price.

Of course it all depends on what you want to do with it - on a full frame you can't beet the 135L for the money, or a 100mm macro for versatility.

Agreed, over the nifty, but on a crop its a bit long so I see where he's coming from, actually easy enough to tell, Mr Bill, set your 70-200 to 85mm and see what you think.

Yes tried that and is a bit long and if i need 85 i already have it on that lens which is why i'm ruling that one out, i think lol

I use my 35mm 1.8g a lot but it does really depend what you are going to use it for,

Okay, cool - thats the 100mm out then too.

There are other options I've not tried myself such as a 35mm - if you've a 18-55 kit lens kicking about I'd try a few more prime ranges (I'm sure you know whats out there but have a look at CPB for a lens list, there are a few options available!) and see what works then look at the specific length, if it is the 50mm then I stand by what I'd said earlier, so down to budget from that point on.

Well, for what it's worth, I have the Sigma 50 f1.4 and personally I love it. Mainly due to the size and weight. It's beefier than the Nikon 50 f1.4 so that might have an influence on your choice.

yes it does, a personal thing but like the better built heavier lenses

28/30mm or 60mm macro :)

not read many great things about the 28/30mm which is why ive not included them but if anyone has good opinions of them can bring them into the frame but then i think 50 is more what i'm looking for on crop though 30 would be good
