4 section if you want it to fold more compact, otherwise 3 section for, in theory at least, a lil more stability.

I cant believe how many of this question there is!!!
Surely the simple answer must be:
If you need fractionally more stability- go for the 3 section, if you need it to fold down shorter- go for the 4 section!!!
Have to say- my RS tripod and ball head have just turned up- and I'm not allowed to open the boxes until xmas
