Which Redspanner Tripod and Head?

I really need to invest in a decent tripod and have decided to go with Redsnapper.

I had decided on the 283 or 284, they are in the price range which I was looking for and seem to be great value for the money. As far as I can tell the only difference is the 284 folds down smaller which would be idea for hiking.

Now they both have an option of coming with the RSH-24 3-Way Panning Head which comes in at £58.95 all in. There's also an option for the RSH-528 Head which is slightly more expensive at £74.95.

I'm not to sure what the differences in the heads are and was wondering which one to go for.

Have you considered the ball head? I've got the 3 way and the ball head and the ball head is much better and easier to use.

id also say take a look at the ball heads ,the other difference between the tripods is less leg sections tend to make it more stable / more rigid

I hadn't no. I would be using it for mostly landscapes and I remember reading a pan head is more suited for landscapes. Or is that just nonsense?

i found a 3 way head easier for landscape....

I found it harder to undo 3 knobs to reposition camera - switch to portrait, re-aim. With the ball head I can be looking through the viewfinder and holding, positioning the camera with one hand, then just tighten the knob with my other hand.

If you want to stitch 3 images together, the panning head would be better, but most situations I think the ball is easier.

i prefer ball heads for all types of pics but some people dislike them ,if you can go and try some different ones it would help you (if you lucky enough to have a good shop nearby)

Thanks guys, I think I'll go for the pan head and can always upgrade in the future.

I've looked at the difference between the 283 and 284 versions (4 legs and smaller folded size). Do you think there is realistically going to be any difference in stability? The 284 would better for hillwalking etc, but I don't really want to comprise for less stability.

id contact the redsnappers guys and ask that mate from what i understand they give good customer service ,and they will know there products

I have the 4 piece legs and not had any problems doing 30 second exposures, I suppose it comes down to weight, focal distance and wind, these will make the difference, if you have small lenses on a small body, I can see the 4 piece being unstable.
