Whats better a cable release or one of these infared remote's for a canon 400d???????????

depends, if its wildlife and the animals are hostile and dont like other species its best for infrared so you could hide and they wouldnt see you. for other things its best for a cable release.

got mine from ebay less than £20, wired remote and wireless all in one, so at least you got both options covered

And don't forget that the infra red doesn't work from behind the camera, or so I'm told. I've got a wired one and have no problems with it. As mastertrinity says, depends on what you want to shoot!

Saw one of these the other day. Not tried it, but at £60 it is far cheaper than any other radio remote.

I have found the little Canon IR jobbie even struggles to work from the front if you cannot get a direct line of sight to the sensor, which gets hidden behind the lens/hood.
