I have been taken shots in the studio on a white background not that the background is the problem. What do you guys find the best shutter speed is to use when photographing kids jumping around having fun.
The flash pulse lasts about 1/10,000th of a second, so the shutter speed does not matter, so shoot at something at or just below your sync speed... 1/150th second will be a good bet (and give your triggers a bit of tolerance)
Ok was just wondering what was the fastest shutter I could use. Obviously 1/60 would be too slow for action shots. I have been using the one shot mode too but have been having difficulties focusing on the kids jumping around. Will have to experiment.
Your sync speed on the camera will be about 1/250th; if you go faster than that then you'll get a big black line across the shot, which is the shutter - electronic Vs mechanical is a good thing to investigate. The Nikon D70s has a sync of 1/500th so I'm led to believe if you want faster.
As Dave says, the flash duration is miniscule so the action is frozen then - set it to 1/125th and you'll be fine
Buy a Nikon D70 or D50 if you want super-fast because they have electronic shutters so are good for high, high speed work where action is concerned outdoors; everything else has a sync speed of about 1/250th, which i've found fine in the studio for the past decade or so. Buy what feels best in your hand is my advice regarding bodies then buy the lenses to match....

Studio flashes are a hell of lot slower than that near to full power and you can still get blur from a fast moving subject - jumping being the obvious example
But yes, the flash is the determining 'speed' of capture unless you have tons of sunlight beeming in also, so your sync speed or just below is your best bet
