Hi to everyone I'm new here!!
But finding the information really interesting I have Nikon at present just a auto focus basic!! But have used a friends canon 50d a lot and am really enjoying it! I'm looking to buying myself a new camera have been looking at the 60d but am still not sure if this is right! I shoot a lot of animals dogs and horses mainly and love the natural ones especially when they are in full flight across the beautiful fields , any advice on a suitable camera I am a amateur with lots of ambition to progress ! Thanks for reading.

Welcome Emma, yes the canon 50/60D is a good camera, it depends on your budget and you also need to budget in a lens or 2.

Best advice is go along to your local camera shop and try out a few different camera bodies and see which one you feel comfortable holding and using. Most of the entry level camera's are similar in operation and performance, the 60D is a intermediate level camera.

As for the type of photography you want to do, you could probably get away with a 70-200mm lens, again this can vary in price from £400 - £1800 depending on which one you buy, buying used equipment also a good option, as you get abit extra for your $$$

It depends on your budget as to what we recommend.

I've got a 60D and a 5D3, and I can highly recommend the 60D. It's got a good AF system, great set of features and is well built. The ergonomics are excellent for my hands, although they may not be suitable for yours, so as Peter said, get into your local camera shop and handle a few to see which suits you.
Also, have a look into the new 650D, which I've just ordered for the wife, as it has a great set of functions and a touch screen as well.
Everything depends on your budget, but don't forget you need lenses to go with the body, so you need to decide on what you're going to shoot and buy the right lenses to suit. The lenses will be more responsible for the image quality than the body in most cases, so it's worth getting a second hand older body and great lenses, rather than a great body and mediocre lenses.
