Hi, i have PSE8 and i will be honest i have never used PSE previously so i dont even know any of the basics , all i do is shoot raw and import via the auto button. I would like to learn a lot more , i would like a reference book that i can refer to when working,i cannot do that on the inernet tutorials. I have done the amazon reviews on photoshop books and a lot of them presume you have used pse earlier versions....I dont mind changing software if thier is anything out thier that it as lot easier as a starter to follow,...any help would be apreciated .Thanks

Thanks for the reply,i have seen those on amazon, when i check the reviews a lot of people say that the author presumes you already know how to use photoshop, i dont have a clue and i am literally new digital procesing. I think i might be better getting a dvd tutorial.

Hi

I would also recommend the books by scott kelby. They are very good.

I had a quick look for you on amazon and saw this one.

Photoshop Elements 8 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)

You should be fine with this one. There are a few reviewers saying it it is suitable for newbies.

Hope that helps:)

I find Scott Kelby's books quite easy reading.

Have you tried the free Canon software you got with the camera? DPP is an excellent Raw processor.

If you're feeling flush though, get Lightroom 3 - which Kelby uses personally. Over £200 but I bought a cheap version from Amazon for £120. It's a US import but the only difference, I'm told, is that UK support might get snooty if you contact them for help. It upgrades fine to v3.4.1

Lightroom is the best software I've used, by miles. It's also the easiest to use - simply, intuitive, very powerful. Download the free 28 day trial and I guarantee you'll end up buying it ;)

Adobe Lightroom is a great editing program, although it doesn't have all the effects, etc that Photoshop has, I find it does all I'll ever need.
