Which system for my requirements?

Hi,

Used to have a DSLR but due to other responsibilities had to sell years ago.

Looking to get back into photography and was just wondering which system to buy into to meet my requirements.

Will be shooting Aviation, Landscape, Nature, Portraiture in that order of frequency.

Was going to buy a Pentax K5 and a few decent lenses as they are cheap at the moment but have heard the AF-C tracking is rubbish. Am i better to start off with Nikon FF and a few decent lenses as it offers the best quality and also the 3d tracking or APS-C as i will be doing aviation and would appreciate the extra reach of the lens? Seen the K800 and the massive amount of megapixels would be brilliant for printing large also.

Budget isnt really a problem , within reason.

I only shoot Canon so I can't comment on Nikon but the new Canon 70D is a fantastic all rounder. I have one as a backup to a FF 5D3 and it's done very well with everything I've done with it. I live near Waddington airbase and I'm getting lots of Typhoons flying past and I've used a Sigma 150-500 OS and a Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS II and 2x converter to get some good shots so far.

I took it round a wildlife park just after buying it and again had the 70-200 and 2x converter on it and got some great shots of animals and birds from there. Not done any landscape shots and not much portraiture with it yet but it's more than holding its own with what I've done so far. It wont replace my 5D3 but it's one hell of a great companion and you could do worse.

Would you say FF is still the way forward? Is the viewfinder much bigger in the 5D Mk3?
 
Depends on your budget. I too shoot planes but find no difference between my d700 (ff) and d300 (dx) aside from the extra reach of the d300. Use a 70-200vr and a 300mm f4 which is brilliant. Even so, that can be a bit short so a sigma 150-500 would be good.
 
Really depends on your budget.... If you go FF you will need more cash to get enough reach as well as lower quality lenses will show more on FF.
