Which teleconverter on the Canon 300mm 2.8

Hi all,
So for all the 300mm 2.8 owners out there, I thought I'd start a thread on what model teleconverters you peps are using on this lens? I have searched the forums but I couldn’t find an in-depth discussion purely about this.
So what are people using and what results are we all getting?
At the moment I have the Kenko tele+ pro 1.4 and the Canon 2x mark ii but have yet to try them on the canon 300mm 2.8 is as I have to wait for tripod collar and other bits and bobs!

I've used my Canon 1.4xII, 2xII and 2xIII without any serious loss of quality.

I have the canon 1.4x II and the canon 2x III and use them both on the 300mm 2.8 IS

The main place I notice a difference is the focus speed, its lightning fast without any tc put the 1.4x on and it slows slightly put the 2x on and the drop in focus speed is quite noticable. Image quality wise yes it drops but it isnt as bad as I was expecting so I am happy with either combination.

Focus speed is reduced to 50% of native with a 1.4x and 25% with a 2x....it's a limitation written into the firmware.

So image loss is not much of an issue? that's good news. I'm just waiting for the weather to brighten up so I can get out in the field and do some photography!! Slightly off topic but is it common for the (what i'm assuming is the I.S) to continullay engauge (by this I mean make a nice whirring sound) whilst holding handheld on the 300?

The IS spools up with a half press of the shutter button or the AF assigned button and shuts off 1 second after the button is released.

Thanks for answering the IS query; this is the first 'big' prime I’ve owned and for me is quite a significant cost.
Just got to check funny whirring noises for peace of mind :thinking:
Still haven’t been able to get out though I guess that’s not a bad thing, lugging all that weight about and hand-holding! Especially with a duff leg at the mo!
I think I may go for the Lensmaster Gimbal. Keeps the cost down, and I'm all for helping the smaller business thrive! (Going completely off topic again!)

When I got mine I saw quite a few people going on about hand holding the 300 2.8 and I thought no way not a chance so I always used it on a mono pod. I then went to an air show and the mono pod was so restrictive especially on the fast jets so I tried hand holding and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was, yes I would rest it between shooting but no problem over the day or following day. I have done it a few times now and its is very manageable hand holding it.
 
Thanks john, I really have no choice but to hand-hold at the mo as I have no collar:bang: I do have a beanbag rest so may go out and try it using handheld and resting on that. unfortunately its raining yet again and is very dull. I think I may have bought a lens with a weather spell!!!

I have used the Kenko 2x DG, Sigma 2x DG, Canon 2x II and Canon 2x III

The 2x II is a good choice sharpness wise. The version III improved magenta cast and corners when using a full frame camera but would not pay £400+ for it, a used one would be worth having though.
