Which to go for - camera bag

Like some others, I'm in the market for an alternative camera backpack to take a Sigma 300 f2.8 along with some other items. My thoughts are heading towards either of the following: - Tamrac expedition x8 or the Lowepro Vertex 300 AW

Appreciate any thoughts or experiences anyone might have had, and any help would be great.

Just got a Flipside 300 s/hand from here and so far so good

Like the zip on the back, bit harder to have anything pinched and its fairly light too

Good idea having the bottle pocket, don't like carrying drinks in the main bag, not so sure about the tripod holder and probably only ok for one of the lighter travel types

Worth a look I reckon for the money, know where there is a decent used one for 45 quid or at least there was this afternoon when I last looked

The vertexes are great bags, but the 300 is huge and heavy, might be too big for just the 300 2.8 and a few other items, would the 200 be too small?

The weight of the 300 does put me off slightly so would need to compare the 200 against the Expedition 8 which I also like write up on.

last one has a 70-200 and a canon 300 in it. he's split the bag across, which is a bit odd.
I would of thought it will be big enough.

I've got a vertex 100 and that can take the 450D with the 100-400 attached, 50mm and 24-105L easily, plus all my other junk. Its a comfortable bag to wear, last year I had all my stuff + a olympus 4/3rds body & 3 lenses in it, it was full and bloody heavy but I didn't ache after carting it about all day

Thank Mark, interesting write up with that thread as well. There's so much out there to look out, think I need to go to a show or very large shop that has every brand available and see them all side by side. Birdfair in August perhaps and make do with my Velocity x10 in the meantime which does the business to a certain extent.

that cambags site is very useful, check out the tamrac on there, it at least gives you an idea of the space available.
