just after some advice, i have never used a tripod and am not sure that i would, although i can see instances where it would be useful, so my question is would you buy a cheapy and if so which one all advice gratefully received

I have a redsnapper with a redsnapper ball head!

Been very impressed with mine!
 
I can agree that redsnapper are good quality piece of kit, i have one and i use it alot and never had any problems with it, as said above 10% discount for tp members, and joe who owns the place it a real nice chap :)

I also have a redsnapper and think it's great, but i'm new to this hobby. However a couple of friends, who have been into photography for some years, were very surprised that the tripod cost me £50 when they has spent £200 on their manfrottos.
 
I rang Joe at Redsnapper & he was really helpful and didn't try to sell me the most expensive kit, but a tripod & head that would do the job for me.
 
Sorry, I did mean the RS-284. Will this be sturdy/strong enough for my 60D. Reviews seem very good. I guess I'll be fine with the RS-284 on the plane + its not too heavy
 
I plan on getting the RS-284 / RSH-24 sometime. A much needed upgrade from the cheap rubbish I have atm. Contemplating getting the monopod as well but not sure of it.. Anybody here used/have one?
