Which walkabout for a D5000?

Hi,

I'm after a bit of advice, I have a D5000 with a 18-55mm vr kit and the obligatory 35mm 1/8. I recently attended a wedding and I missed several shots due to lack of length so have been looking at the 18-105mm and the 18-200mm. I'm really after a general 'one lens does all' solution that is going to be able to weddings (as a guest), wildlife in the garden, city breaks etc.

Am I correct on thinking that the IQ is on par for both of these lenses compared to the 18-55mm? And is the price difference worth the extra zoom on the 200mm?

I still intend to keep the other 2 lenses though.

Thanks in advance.

Pixel-Peep Should give you some idea on the 2 lenses.... The 18-200mm VR is rated as a superb lens & does come with some high reviews but also with a highish price tag to go with it... Cant really say that much about the 18-105 as when I had a D90 I sold the kit lens (18-105) & got the 18-200 instead...

I cant really see the point of having either the 18-105/200 & the 18-55 thou as they both cover the range of the original kit lens...

Good ole Uncle Ken gave a review on the lens an absolute adores it  KR 18-200 review

If budget is a prob then I'd say the 105 VR but if you can stretch more then go for the 18-200 & sell the 18-55 (an put the money towards either one)

Another vote for the 18-200mm. If budget is an issue, I got mine from MPB for £350.

When going walkabout I only ever take this lens and carry a 35mm for low light etc.

read with a BIG pinch of salt....but Uncle ken says

The photos are nice and sharp most of the time, but if you're looking closely, the 18-105mm is Nikon's fuzziest lens in the corners at 18mm. Even the $100 18-55mm is better.
