Which web hosting company?

Hi,

I'm about to choose a new web hosting company for my website, mainly to get "unlimited" data transfer, but also for cost purposes.

I'm currently considering JustHost.com, which has some good reviews.

Which one do you use, and what's your experience with it? To reiterate; I'm after "unlimited" transfer/storage, fast connection, and a good price! :)

youll never get unlimited data transfer or storage. even those offering "unlimited" always have small print contradicting that statement.

for 34.99 you can get the standard package from tsohost that gives you 20GB Bandwidth/month and 2.5gb storage. there are other higher packages available but do you really need that amount?

Thanks. Yeah, I'm aware of the "unlimited" offerings - they are usually offered as a selling term because they now most users wont go over, say 100GB. And unfortunately I might have fallen for that sales pitch! :)

However, the more I look around the more convinced I am that my current hosting company might actually be worth it's money. :S

With justhost.com you have to sign up for 5 years upfront, something I do not wish to do.

It sure is a jungle out there.

seriously though how much space/bandwidth do you need?

for example ive got 5500 low res (600x400 jpg) images stored in my online store, a mysql backend and then all of the webpage files and currently im using 955MB out of 2500MB. and last month i used about 15-20% of my 20gb bandwidth allowance.

I definitely don't need that much (at this point), it's just a psychological thing! :)

(I'm a sucker for sales pitches, unfortunately.)

www.dreamhost.com

Use code G030 to sign up for the one year prepay thing and the first year is I think about $20 instead of $100 or so.

I've used them for years and they are great - loads of bandwith/storage and great features etc. Support is good too.

as a previous customer of Webfusion (hmmm very crap service and ignore cancellation notices)

Any way currently Using a company called Layershift, although i cannot vouch for shared hosting if the vps is any thing to go by then the shared will be great.

Support for me is always answered within an hour and minutes if you call. any problems solved very quickly.

Uk data centres, never had my server go down, (now i say that it will lol)

just my thoughts on this.

Another TSOHost user here, if you do a search on this forum you will see they come highly recommended.

There seems to be a lot of people on this forum that would like unlimited hosting/bandwidth for peace of mind so I have decided to create a special hosting package for members of this forum.

*Unlimited Space, *unlimited bandwidth, wordpress & joomla automatic installation from the control panel, 10 email addresses, forwarding, junk filters, mailing lists etc... and a few other bits and bobs. All for £29.99 p/year.

*like all unlimited offers these days, a fair usage policy applies

If anyone wants a package, pm me for the 'secret' address. And please don't republish the address - this is an offer for photographers on this forum only.

I will post this properly in a new thread somewhere on the forum - just have to have a look through the categories to see where it belongs first.

How much is extra bandwidth if you exceed unlimited though?

Graham

It's unlimited with a fair usage policy exactly the same as unlimited bandwidth from your broadband provider. Basically, it means the likes of facebook or ebay would be asked to find alternative hosting solutions - I have yet to come across a regular customer that has been flagged up for abusing the fair usage policy. It's much the same as if you started downloading movies 24/7 for a few months - your broadband provider would be asking you to move on, cut down usage or pay a premium.
