I am looking to upgrade my a65 for the a77. However, I'm looking to get rid of the kit lens along with the a65 and get myself something a little better. I can get the a77 with the 'kit' 16-50mm 2.8 for a very reasonable price.

Has anyone had any use with this lens? Or can anyone recommend me something else, either Sigma or Tamron that would match up to it?

Before I bought the A65, I tried it outside a local Jessop's (ironic given the news today) with both the lenses mentioned.
I've looked at all the photos taken (not even remotely compositional) standing in the shade looking at brightly lit buildings and mainly cloudless blue sky.
Think I'd the camera on Auto or Auto+, but irrespective, I fail to notice any great difference between the lenses.
I have both RAW & JPEG images, and for the difference in price, I'd be hard pushed to recommend the 16-50.

Tamron 17-50 might be worth considering over the 18-55, but I'm going by the considered opinion of many people that that Tamron lens is a diamond among coals.

I can put the images up on the hosting site I use, and you can download them and compare for yourself on your monitor, etc.
