which wide angle??

I am looking to buy a wide angle very soon but can't decide on which one. I have never deviated from Canon or Sigma but have been impressed with both Tokina lenses and Tamron.

lenses I have looked at are

Tamron 10-24 f3.5-5.4
Sigma 10-20 f4.5-5.6
Tokina 12-24 f4

may be able to stretch to the Tokina 11-16 f2.8

the Tamron 3.5-4.5 seems to be the one I am more interested in as it gives a wider range, and open from 3.5 which is better than the Sigma's 4.5, but then the Tokina has constant f4 or the more expensive 2.8, arrggghhhh decisions decisions!!!! what would you/have you gone for and why?

I had the Tokina 12-24 F4 Pro - prefered it over the Sigma 10-20... Althou it was a Nikon fit Tokina... But I would recommend it (Tokina F4 12-24mm Pro)

I have the Tokina 11-16

Feels extremely well made - like a tank. I am more than happy with it. In fact I am addicted to using it most of the time, which I perhaps shouldn't be doing, but hey I think it's a fantastic lens!

Tokina 11-16mm if you want all out IQ and want to shoot in low light.

I never found focal range on a UWA to be much of an issue (I own one).

The Canon is good for a mix of IQ and focal range, but it's quite slow if that matters to you.

Tokina 12-24 owner here... I have never bought anything different from Canon, but I made the decision based on price, and the fact that the 10-22 is an EF-S mount, and would be unusable on a full-frame, whereas the 12-24 is supposed to work, but vignettes until around 19mm, but that shouldn't apply to you.

I would definitely recommend the Tokina 12-24, great price, great quality, and a nice sturdy feeling lens, interesting focusing switch as well.

Tokina 11-16mm if you want f2.8

If not then both the Canon 10-22 and the Tokina 12-24 are excellent

The Tamron is the worst UWA lens and I have used them all. The Tokina 11-16 is the best ( I found it better than Canon and Nikon UWA's though to be fair to Canon, their effort is much better than Nikon's).

The Tokina 12-24 is pretty damn good too and has a greater range although that's why you have a lens collection so I wouldn't really worry about that.

I would buy the 11-16.

Failing that, the Canon or the Tokina 12-24 then the Sigma

And, if I didn't like photograhy I'd get the Tamron
(Their 17-50 non VC is good so I'm not completely bashing them)

It has to be the tokina 11-16 f2.8, I have it mated on my 7D and it produces very sharp and crisp images.
