Hello Peeps,

I quite like shooting events and have done a few to date, tend to get by with my 18-70 and 50mm, though i really need to replace the 18-70, but unsure which is going to be more benefit me more.

Stuck between the 17-55mm and the 24-70mm, both 2.8's. All glass i hev is consumer and will be wittled down in the very near future.

Thanks inadvance.

Rob.

Hi Rob

I think I've seen someone on here use a program that goes through photos and shows you all focus lenghs used - or I guess you could do it manually - if you never go neay 17-23 then I guess it will help it some way?

Sure someone will be along shortly with some experienced based advice though!

I'm not sure if the D300 is a APS-C or FF sensor.

Assuming it's APS-C you may have problems with a 24-70 if you need to take a lot of landscape/wide angle shots as it would work out to be ~38-112. As Akr has stated though, if you don't go below 24mm on your existing lens that's not going to bother you much.

17-55 easily :p

The 24-70 though is considered to be the dogs whatsits for lenses, as you know the 17-55 is a DX lens. 2nd hand I have not seen a 24-70 below £900/£1k and never that many for sale which speaks volumes. Dont think there should be issues with that on a DX body.

I just dont use my 17-55 enough, nice though it is. Very solid and feels good on a d300, thought it didnt seem right on my old d90 for some reason!

I would expect image quality to be very similar.

Lol.. Cambsno,

I'm just clarifying I'm going the right route before we possibly enter into negotiations.

Rob.
