Hi all, I need a little advice, i have not long purchased my first DSLR a nikon d5000 with 18-55 lens included. I am enjoying photographing running events in particular and would like to get a zoom lens to get some good close up pics .Does anyone have a recomendation for a decent starter zoom lens that does not cost the earth. My applogies if my terminology is rubbish!!!. Many thanks Joe

Try and find the Nikon 55-200 VR and don't be afraid to buy used.
I've used Ffordes before and the service is great and they have some ex demo's at a good price here

You would probably be looking at say a 70-200mm zoom as you probably quite close to the action at these running events, but with out a bit more information, like a budget and conditions (are these events run during the day, at night, indoors) as that would also narrow down which lenses would be recommended.

the events are outdoors and during the day mainly , if i could i would like to spend less than £200
