Evening all,

QRight next year im wanting to attend some motorsport events and at the minute i only have a 50mm and 18-105vr lens for my Nikon D90.

From what iv read i need upto 300mm but iv no idea what lens to be looking at.

Any suggestions, budget is pretty tight for me at the minute but im hoping my bonus will help out in jan so say £0 - £300 ish any suggestions welcome :D

Used Nikon 70-300 VR, sells on the classifieds for just over £300. I had one and they are a very good lens.

Just got one myself and its a cracker. £300 bargain, took this yesterday, handheld at 300mm on a dull morning.

And the bokeh is excellent as well.

forgive the newb question what is Bokeh?

You will get a better description from google but its basically the out of focus background as I understand it.

A lens with good bokeh can make a busy distacting background melt away letting the focus point of your image stand out.

Yup, Nikkor 70-300VR - one of the best bang per buck bits of Nikon glass out there and certainly it should be your first port of call in the quest to get into longer glass.

The 70-300 VR is a good lens, no question, but for the same money you'll get a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8. Okay it'll be the older version, but it's a huge step up iq-wise from the 70-300 VR

But its 100mm short of the OP's target and almost certainly doesn't come in at 300ish quid :D

If you want to save some money you could always go for the cheaper option of the sigma 70mm - 300mm for about £170. Great lens, only problem I have is that it struggles in low light. But of course if you want to spend £300 ish go with what the guys have said , and the VR does make a hell of a difference.
