Ello! I'm hoping someone will help me figure what's going on, basically I decided to go out and take some shots yesterday, weather was a bit  so I set wb to cloudy, a few shots later I set it back to auto to see what the difference would be, and boy there was a huuuuge difference, all my pics came out extremelly blue  the day before I was tinkering with custom wb presets and took a shot under orange/reddish lighting, could it be that the camera is falling back on this preset while on auto to counteract(?) the great amount of reds in the scene I was taking shots of? It was the Houses of Parliament btw. I don't fully understand wb so I don't know if that makes any sense, could anyone point me in the right direction? and also how do I delete this custom wb? I have a D90.

Hope I didn't over-complicate things :bonk:

Could a mod move this thread to an appropriate area please? I could really do with some help.

I'm not an expert or a Nikon user, but if you shoot in RAW, you can correct WB with your software when you do your post processing. Its something I have started using for a few months now and wouldnt go back to JPEG because of the versatility it gives you.

No, not possible. Are you sure you put it back to auto WB and not back to custom.

Have another go and if you get the same problem, post the results. Huuuuge is not a a very exact amount ;) What you said you were doing sounds right.

'Correct' colour balance is often surprisingly subjective. If you need to be dead accurate, you need to shoot a grey card to make comparisons, eg Kodak 18% grey card.

A quick way to get your camera back to normal is to use the camera reset....

Hold the two green buttons down on top of your camera until the top lcd blinks this should correct any crazy settings you may have changed.

I have a D90 and use it in manual mode mostly, but leave the wb set at auto for much of the time, It only gets confuddled when shooting indoors so I set it for tungsten/florescent lighting.

Then use Capture NX to set the white balance when processing on the pc.

I find the Nikon software is very good at this and was a good buy.

Welcome to the "I'll tinker with settings club".........good innit

Tnx guys, I did a reset and it seems ok now but I still can't get rid of the custom wb :(

The custom WB should only be applied when you select it- if you don't then you'll have whatever preset or auto setting you select. There's no harm in having a custom WB there if you never use it!

Custom WB setting says in memory until you overwrite it with a new one.

Oh ok so I'll just leave it there then.

Thanks everyone.
