Thought this would probably be the best place to ask about this as I can't find anything specific after a wee search through the forum.

Upon messing around with the menus on my D40x, I noticed that the white balance is set to "Auto+". This has been given a setting of obviously whatever the camera decides is correct "+2".

My question is, should I just leave it as is or change it? Surely there must be a good reason the previous owner had it set as +2?

I think your camera has a WB auto fine tuning control in the menu allowing "cooler" or "warmer" images.
I'd forget about what the previous owner had set and start without any adjustment to the default auto setting. Only change that if you think your pics are turning out too bluish or too orange (ish).
