I cant recall ...but someone has posted saying they ahve been there and dropped equipment off... I need to do this but only ever posted stuff before.. if i phone i get the run around (press this and that) which I am sure ends up in india :(

I have dropped equipment off at Elestree a few times. Generally a smooth hassle free experience

Its arund 100 quid to send my 400mm I may as well drive the 250 miles and deliver it myself.. thinking all be a bit quicker.. but when i phone its a pain.. did you just take it.. or organise it with someone first...

would be nice to speak to someone at hq ... pref email..

Yep, Ive been there. Easy to get to. Park up and pop into reception. They are geared up for folk coming in to drop stuff off.

They will give you a form to fill in. Take your CPS card. Also you can ask to speak to a tech person if you want to give specific instructions. All very easy.

They will post your kit back or you can collect.

haaaa ... kewl :)

Oh, and you get a copy of the form acknowledging that they have your gear and what needs doing. You can also specify what cost you authorise them to spend up to if it isnt a warrant job, and to call you if it will exceed that limit.

I presume the 400 is out of warranty?

Yup, a hassle free experience, very good.

:( brand new in july 2010 .. i didnt realise I had it that long.. needs calibrating at very least.. not getting much decent at f2.8 .. not getting anything with a 1.4k hopefully its nothing more expensive..

certainly isnt a patch on my 70-200 mkII but should be equal if not better

camera is spot on calibrated as tested wiht other lens.. also put 400 on both bodies and simmilar results... buitifull at f5.6 for cricket and just about right at f4

yeagh got them off the cps website before.. prob fill it in before i set off

its the 6k value of the lens on top of transport that makes it around 100 quid to deliver UPS ect :( drive from lancashire is cheaper :)

They are also good at keeping emailing you to keep you updated on the repair status

Cheers as always mate :)

but am booked every weekend sat/sun to end of sep for cricket and as mentioned its loverly at f5.6 which i prefer for cricket anyways.. so cant go a weekend without it..

wife likes a road trip... gonna go after 4pm (paper deadline) on a sunday... have a mucky night of it and drop it off monday.. should ensure as a platinum CPS back before weekend..

she dont know about the mucky bit so prob wont happen :(

:)

its loverly at f5.6 ...

Well, just buy a 400 5.6 and I'll take the 2.8 off your hands, even do a straight swop???:exit::lol:

I live 5 mins away from it (Canon Elstree ) When it needs servicing, I always drop and pickup my gear. Very pleasant people to deal with. If you come down, send me a PM to exchange phone numbers and we'll hookup for a wee drink. :)

Looks like will deffo be taking the lens myself as even a 250 mile round trip is cheaper than posting... Gonna be there on a sun night early mon morning.. me and missus gonna be looking for meal out and drink (but not wee :) ) on the sun then drop off early mon and head back

as it works OK for what I am doing at the moment I am going to wait until my midweek clears up which should be in about 2 weeks... thats first week in june..

New plan .. decided overnight defeats the objects of cheaping on delivery.. AND just found out next week when planned to go is a bank holiday... glad i didnt attempt that..

Gonna set off about 5am this monday.. drop off and back as I ahve a job at 4pm

open 9am is it?

if I had known you were in Elstree, I would have popped over to share coffee/sausage butty, it's only 10 mins from me. Hope you have a good journey back oop north

They actually use ups standard to send things back, i use this to send to them, costs about £8.99 via parcels please.

Makes me wonder if they use extra insurance as standard rate is £60 i think.

Having said that UPS are brilliant.

I sent a 17-40 to them , they got it on Tuesday and it will be back with me tomorrow, im in cps gold, they said they have a bit of a backlog on repairing things, and the repairmen had to come in on Saturday ,which is rare.

She told me they where mega busy.. I thought probably standard response.. But mines a 2 day guaranteed turnaround ...only starts day after they get it.. says I should gte it back thursday

no word yet so maybe just calibrating.. but why did it go?

THEORY and wondered what others thought.. I have the Peli 1560 that fits all my gear perfect..everything well packed in it..nice and firm no room to move.. But the peli have small hard wheels.. if grounds too rough i ahve to carry but its very heavy.. I wondered over slightly rough ground.. has the vibrations knocked the calibration out? might be a daft idea I dunno... thoughts anyone?0

M1 to leeds then m62 accross to manchester then up to where I live.. lot clearer run than the nightmare M6 on way down and only about 15 miles longer... Thanks :)

Well mine was 3 day turnaround, not guaranteed is it being in cps, they aim for 3 or 2 days, and offer loan equipment if longer. 7 days today for me in cps gold (3 day) its on the ups truck mind for delivery today.

mines platinum so 2 day turnaround.. sent stuff before.. however this was my first ever visit (hence the thread :) )

they say the x?days turnaround starts the day after they recieve the equipment..

That might only be if its via UPs/Post (maybe a late afternoon delievry), fingers crossed as you hand delivered it will get a quicker turnaround.
I've always found them excellent.

There are some days I hate photogrpahy.. its rare.. very rare.. but today is one of them :(

£73 quid to clean, calibrate and test focus..+ 70 quid fuel to get the lens to them.

Its back and worse than when it went.. it was usable at f5.6 for cricket before.. not now :(

I have two 1dmkIVs that have been calibrated.. I can take a pic form 50 yrds away at f2 using the 135mm lens.. I can take pics the full lenght of a football pitch with the 70-200 at f2.8 and produce good pictures.. So the cameras are calibrated OK and indeed they where calibrated at leihmans in stoke about a yr ago.. I know they are perfect

So the 400mm that was bad at f2.8 , usable at f4 and pin sharp perfect at f5.6 now comes back unusable at any of those

so phone in hand....after the runaround with canon I get a special number for cps users... an hr ago I explained everyhting and he is going to get back to me..

upset to say the least :(

Bummer , least you got to see some nice cleavage :D

Im sure they will sort it for you, i would never have done the drive down, i just bung my stuff in a box and send it to them, i dont pay extra for insurance either, i trust ups, watch my next item go missing !

You tried to manually adjust ?

He did say if it has to go back they will send me the UPS labels and pay

I tried manual adjust before sending but not now.. calibrated camera and calibrated lens should work..

He also asked if I had the lens calibrated to the camera.. so maybe thats the next step.

On a 6 thousand pound lens? sorry I aint leaving that to trust :)

Thing is, if you go for extra insurance, it tips someone the wink, eh up jack, expensive item here, let's nab it :)

Prefer incognito approach myself.

Sounds like what im dealing with at the moment with fixation.

They fixed my 16-35 only now it wont focus unless you hold the af button for about 15 seconds.

They tell me its sharp and theres no fault... Yes because a 16-35 on a 2 series should take that long to focus.

Sorry to hear your pain dude it really is a nightmare!

So this UPS trust.. only goes so far eh ? :)

Yep :) i remember someone who used to send laptops via special delivery, brilliant service, but dear, high value insurance 2.5k etc.

One went missing, royal mail didnt pay up,they accused him of allsorts he had to take them to court, he won mind.

Tony, I had a similar problem with lens which was supposed to be sorted by Elstree, just insist they take it back and re check it, and also insist that they send you by email the ups labels...which they will.

Also I suggest you get them to call you to discuss what they have done prior to their despatching it back to you.
They will I'm sure also check it with your body if you want them to.
