Who is your influence

As per the title....

I started photography in May with with A590IS and updated to my 50D in September.

I wouldn't have a clue who the "TOP" photographers are. I have only read one photography book (The dreaded "Understanding Exposure").

Due to not knowing the who's who I do not have a style I wish to copy but I think it would be handy to know who are the "BEST" photographers. My main interest at the moment is architecture & landscapes.

Who would you recommend ??

Who influences you and why ??

Said it before, but I loved Eamonn Mccabe's work. He was the first photographer who started shooting the losers rather than the winners - though he always got the money shot. So, him really.

For me, it's Monica Froese, who provided the pictures on all of Tangerine Dream LP sleeves until her death from breast cancer in the mid 1990's.
Then it's really been Talkphotography in the past 6 months! :D Thanks everyone!

So far Pete you have been my biggest influence and if one day I get to your standard then I will be a happy man. Only one meet so far and I learned so much. Looking forward to learning more stuff from you in the future.

I recognise you from one of his Photos :)

I have to say, he is a massive inspiration for me too. Has been since I joined this place.

Gary.

Very kind.

I'm not so into landscapes. My inspirations are Paolo Pellegrin, Thomas Dworzak, Trent Parke (bit of a Magnum thing going on here), Robert Frank, Larry Clarke and Henry Cartier-Bresson.

never looked at many pics from the famous photographers, so not really inspirsed by them

i started with a bridge camera and enjoyed taking pics so carried on, now i am more than happy with the way things go

not inspired by anyone, I have my own style. I personally think a lot of "famous" photographers are no better than a lot of people I see online with the only difference is you'll not have heard of them.

Thanks everyone !!

Quite a few names to research there.

This is what happened with me but like I said Pete has given me some great influence to push my photography that little bit further.

And as Pete said to me. Scott don't just take the photo, Make the photo. Wise words from a good friend.

I have a few...

From the forom
The Two Petes (Diego and Carr), HimUpNorth, Siejones, Messiah Khan.

From FlickR
MotionID, Luciede Belkova (WOW!)

Just a random blog
Moodaholic

And then from the books
Colin Prior (Excellent Panoramics, and some awesome Scottish Landscapes)
Colin baxter
Joe Cornish

I wan't to see more work of the famous candid and street photographers too as I have yet to really look at them.

Gary.

Thats what I thought when I saw his aviator:lol:

Agree with what Gary and Snapper73 has said. You (Diego Garcia) along with many others on here produce such standard that I aim to reach, thus not really exploring into the big names of photography much. As of yet I have no "style" but maybe that will come with time and once I am more consistent with what I produce. At the moment I just want my photography to make people go "WOW".

Colin Prior (Excellent Panoramics, and some awesome Scottish Landscapes)

I forgot him.

Must say when I was up in Scotland this month I saw his work in a few shops and it was very good indeed, his calendars are amazing and so well priced its crazy.

Don't know if they have "influenced me" but some of those that "hit the spot" when I look at their images are (in no particular order) Ansel Adams, Man Ray, Cartier-Bresson, Don McCullin, Harry Benson, Charlie Waite and Arthur Morris.

Bob Carlos Clarke for me. He broke so many rules yet still made images that just worked. Probably the best advertising photographer ever.

Patrick Litchfield was also a very gifted technical shooter and the pair of them must have made a rather odd couple. The mad Irishman and nobility, yet they were firm friends.

Might be a little strange but my father who is a a very talented oil and water colour artist, I would just like to get my images to capture the depth and emotion that his paintings manage to portray.

Apart from that I have nothing, I look at loads of peoples work and I read loads of books and I am hoping along the way everything will come together and I get my own little thing going on.

I have loads to learn with the camera and I have a mountain to climb in the PP area but it one of those things I enjoy so its not something I am going to rush or worry about.

I mainly try to please myself and if people like the images along the way then that is a bonus to me.

Must be doing something right as I do manage to exchange the product of my hobby for cash on a regular basis.

Too many to say for me as whenever I see an image I like it inspires me, bad images do too as ideas from so called rubbish shots have an idea behind them that you may not have thought about but plants that seed of encouragement plus give you the chance to improve on what has gone before. So I say everyone inspires me. ;)

My biggest influence is Eileen(Babytiger) we go out regular and many times I had to tell her about DOF aperture and shutter speed ....now I go out with her and ask what settings she is using so I can compare and get a better shot....she doesnt post much as she thinks they are rubbish(not) but she is a much better tog than me

In no particular order, Martin Parr, Nick Waplington, McCullin, Mark Power, Tom Wood, O. Winston Link and Bill Brandt.

What he said.

By all means, learn from anybody and everybody, take whatever they can teach you and apply it to your owns style and get inspired by Garymercer.

Copying Ansel or whoever means your work (no matter how good) will always be 2nd best Ansel Adams styles whereas it could be first rate Garymercer styles:thumbs:

My 2c anyway - HTH

Ansel, for the pictures.
Tim Cooper, for his teaching style, not so much his pictures.

Gosh, what an interesting thread. For me it's (in no particular order)
Ansel Adams
Don McCullin
Jean-Loup Sieff
Edward Weston
Karsh
Robert Capa
Henri Cartier-Bresson
Jane Bown

There are many others too. Far too many to list.

Cheers

Mark

I don't know any 'well known' photographers, but I do like looking on here as peoples pics and try and draw inspiration from that.

I love Charlie Waite for his landscapes but the most inspiring photographer I know of is Troy Paiva who is one of the best night photographers/lightpainters I have ever seen. His incredible photos of abandoned stuff in the Midwest are here:

http://www.lostamerica.com/

Johnny Walker gives me a fair bit of inspiration.
So does Woods (100) and the odd bit of uplift comes out of a Plymouth Gin bottle too, but i am not a fan of Gordon.

Sorry - it is the festive season, not known for being serious for long.

Parkinson took pics that always make me look twice.
Charlie Wait and Colin Prior do landscapes from nothing.

Frans Lanting for his angles on wildlife.

Pete the HDR man for how he gets them to look like that. I have tried and tried, but all I get is a mush of noise.
