Well I was on 20mbit anyway and Virgin kept wanting too much to upgrade to 50mb. Finally they dropped the install fee and activation fee and dropped the monthly cost to an extra fiver. I suspect the sudden change of heart is due to the launch of their 100 mbit service any time now. :shrug:
 
Think it depends on the bundle you have and what "loyalty Discounts" you get.

Virgin have also just (1st feb) announced their 30MB tier which is replacing the 20MB.

30mb down and 3mb up for the same price as 20mb so essentially a free upgrade.

I think im currently on a good deal with

Basic Phone
TV XL
V+ HD Box
30MB Broadband

£45 per month

LOL I don't get it - they seem to charge what they like. We're on the top package. Did you get the free modem router?

Must say it's zipping along - the iPad really rocks on the web now!

No dont think so, I think the normal price would be £75 but for some reason I have a £30 discount on my account.

No idea why as i never threatened to leave or anything but hey im not complaining.

New customers tend to get better deals with virgin though so it may be worth looking at virginmedia.com and building your bundle and seeing what it costs
 
i built one once and it started nearing £80 so i just gave up lol - im not paying more than sky regardless!
 
Lets see what you think if you hit any traffic shaping by Virgin.

I'm with Be There (we're not in a cable area) after terrible traffic management making the internet unusable from Virgin (ASL). I was tempted by BT's Infinity which would give me 30Mbit down but would cap to 1Mbit down during peak if you go over 300GByte/month. I can do 300Gbyte+ in a month on 3.xMbit/s as it is now. It could take me a couple of days at 30Mbit/s.

These peak speeds are totally useless if you have rate/traffic management at peak times if you stream a lot of entertainment....

Careful you don't go and use it though - they'll cap to 1Mbit at peak if you go over 300G a month (and if you iplayer as lot, that's not that much!)

tbh to go over the virgin caps (doesnt have any on 50mb) you need to use quite alot of bandwidth and only people i know that go over it are people downloading films off p2p all day.
 
Need to get onto them in the morning about the 30MB! Can't have this! :lol:

We received a new D-link router and a couple of wireless dongle thingies last month.
 
Not looking too bad, will check out the 30mb offer.

Don't have cable available here and I work from home. We use iplayer a lot and I often have to move very large files (>1Gbyte) around for work. Given most people use the BT network for their ISP, I really don't want to have a bandwidth cap that takes me from 30+Mbits to 1Mbit at peak times. I'll stay on my 4Mbit connection for now as I know it is usable in the evenings.

Around 3-4Mbit down, 1Mbit up. I'm not unhappy with the service for the price either ;)

It's good isn't it -I'm getting over 50mb down and 4mb up pretty well all the time. It only seems to drop very occasionally at peak times and rarely below 40mb so I'm well pleased so far.



Have you downloaded the free Vigin Media Security? I'm giving it a go on two machines and so far I'm pretty impressed with it.

No - not intending to try it. My firewall's pretty good anyway, does all my content filtering and AV via webtrends, so I'm fairly well covered i think.

I wasn't unhappy with the AV stuff I wa using, but I'll give this a fair shot for a couple of weeks and then decide. I see they're also offering unlimited backup of stuff - has to be good if only for images. Hmmm..
