Why can't a adjust the aperture. Please help?

Hello everyone, I have a Finepix S2000hd and like to stay in Manual but i can't seem to adjust the aperture as much as i would like so i am very confused. I only have two options and they are F3.5 AND F7. Anybody know what i am doing wrong as i thought in Manual i would pretty much have a free reign.

Seems to say that is about right when at wide angle and 5.4 to 10.8 when at telephoto.

Compact and bridge cameras have smaller sensors than DSLRs so they have much more depth of field for the same f number.... which means you get more stuff in focus but makes it harder to blur a background behind your subject.

Thank you RobertP that is great and the blurring thing is true so that answers that question too.

The closer your subject is to the camera at f3.5 the more blurred the background will be. So in the garden someone at portrait distance should still have a nicely blurred background behind them.
