Why does everyone hate the Canon EOS 60D?

I am wanting to upgrade my camera from a EOS 1000D to a 60D but upon visiting two of my local camera dealerships they both told me that the 60D wasn't viewed well at all and the majority of customers are buying the 7D instead. I know the 7D is a superior camera but not that much surely. They both have similar spec so what's the fuss? Is it all subjective about the "feel" and case build rather than the operation? At the moment the 60D had come down in price quite a lot so the attraction to buy is there, but am I missing something or is it just the "old pro's" having a moan? :thinking:
 
It seems to me plenty of people are enjoying the 60D.

As always, if it does what you want it to do and it feels good, then why not get one? :)

The camera (body only) has dropped below £800 online, which is still above the RRP in the US and Asia

Whereas the 7D has held its price quite well
 
Every camera that gets released gets moaned about-usually by people who have never used it.

There's also lots of nice things being said about the 60D.If it fits you needs then buy it.
I personally think it looks a great camera.The moveable screen is supurb and something that I hope Canon starts rolling out on it's future cameras.

I suspect you would find it a considerable improvement on your 1000D, as to whether it's better or worse than a 7D is probably a matter of personal preference to the features you want. The 7D is a great camera, I've not used a 60D but it's probably a great camera as well.
 
As a quick guess, your 2 local dealers make more profit on each 7D sold than they do on the 60D.

IF the 7D's extra features include some that you want or need, then go for that, otherwise, get the 60D and enjoy the £250 (or so) saving! It's even possible that your current body does all you need it to so you could stick with that and up[grade your lenses?
 
I think a lot of people feel that the 60D isn't in keeping with the robustness of the previous XXD models. To be honest I think anything above the 50D spec with the same build would have just been a 7D so Canon had to rethink the 60D.
 
I don't know if everyone hates the 60D but I suspect that some are tempted to overlook it because it lacks a Magnesium alloy chassis and micro adjust. Not me.

The 7D may have more features but I probably wouldn't use them and the one stand out feature that appeals to me is the 60D's articulated screen. Obviously image quality is very important too and some reports say that the 60D shades the 7D a little and if that's correct it quite rightly so as it's a newer camera and I'd expect Canon to learn from each model and move IQ on.
 
I bought myself a 60D last week as an upgrade from my 350D

I did think about a 7D, but liked the twisting screen, and the £300 saving so went with the 60D. No problems with the focusing speed so far, its fine for me and better than my 350D was. I can't imagine I'll use in particularly dusty or wet conditions so won't worry about that aspect. And at this weekends rally the shooting speed was more than adequate.
 
The guys instore will want you to spend the extra. Get the 60D and a decent lens.
 
Indeed most of the gripe about the 60D is from the fact that it's not a 50D incremental upgrade but instead a new category between the 50D and 550D. The 7D is not the "new 50D" either, but instead a "mini 1D". So in essence they've split the middle tier (xxD models) into 2 new segments. I'm pretty sure the 7D will be succeeded by the 7D2 to have the pro and prosumer cameras all using the mkX versioning.

But a lot of people waited a long time for the 60D and then were told they should have gotten the 7D all along. This is why "everyone" is buying 7D instead of 60D.. There are and will be loads of happy 60D customers but they are probably not the ones who thought they could get a 7D for the price of a 50D.
