why is my new bag so heavy?

I got my new lowepro slingshot 202 and loaded it up.

Today I took my little boy for a walk and decided to take my camera with me

After about 20 minutes I noticed how heavy it is compared with my last bag with no more kit inside.

It just seems really heavy considering theres 3 empty lens spaces? Anyone noticed this? Or any thoughts
 
Is it the weight that is the issue or is it a case that the bag isn't adjusted properly and so the weight isn't sitting correctly.

Was you last bag a rucksack or just over a single shoulder?
 
It was a single shoulder strap - I don't mean I can't believe it's heavier I mean it feels ridiculously heavy after a while.

I've tried it tight and up high, and looser and lower. Just seems to make my back ache :(
 
I've got a Slingshot 300 which I use constantly, normally with a 7d, 70-200 2.8, 100-400 and either a 24-105 or a 90mm macro with extension tubes and teleconverter plus other bits and pieces - in other words it weighs quite a lot! I find it very comfortable however. Are you using the waist belt? With this sort of bag it is essential so the belt takes the weight and the shoulder strap is just for balance. The belt is very handy for hooking tripod collars over as well to hang the camera from.

If it's a bigger bag then it probably is heavier than your old one! I used to have a Slingshot 200 but found having the weight on the same shoulder all the time too uncomfortable, so now have a rucksack style and a shoulder bag (or two!).
 
Do you mean the strap that can be tucked away and connects at the chest?
 
No, the strap that goes round your waist - it takes all the weight onto your hips instead of your shoulder.

I've had a look at the kit inside and to be honest it had a lot of stuff inside that didn't need to be there. I also noticed that some stuff is really heavy, like my battery grip doubles the weight of my camera and my flashgun is also very heavy. Anything that I won't need for just walking round has been taken out and I will just evaluate what kit I need before I go to any particular place for sessions such as take the flash if its indoors etc

That way it'll be as light as possible. It doesn't help that I have a bad back I suppose! Perhaps I should have gotten a rucksack :/
 
Sorry, I always thought that was a slightly smaller & more modern version of my bag and so would have the belt. I'm surprised a sling type bag is made without a belt, to be honest, as I find it essential.
Just ignore my posts :-)
 
To be honest I think if they added a waist belt this bag would be spot on
